Program emphasis

Cell engineering and citrus genetic improvement. 1) Germplasm enhancement by cell engineering: protoplast fusion to produce somatic hybrids / cybrids, doubled diploid (tetraploid) exploitation, ploidy crossing & embryo rescue for seedlesstriploid breeding, and anther culture to generate haploid / dihaploid lines; 2) Molecular dissection of specific traits: omics-based approaches to reveal genetics / epigenetics of citrus polyploids, and to exploit male sterility / seedlessness related genes using novel male sterile cybrid lines; protoplast regeneration based gene editing and molecular breeding.
